: Our store has been having some problems with excessive tardiness and absences. Like the younger employees calling in sick Friday or Saturday night, and Sat/Sun morning, for example. Initially, a rule was instituted that if you were going to be sick, you had to first find someone to replace your shift. This was aimed at the "trouble makers" mainly, but it caused some problems for those people who rarely ever call in sick, and only called in when they truly were sick (we're humans, and even the most honest hardworking get sick once in awhile). Now, a chart has been posted in the breakroom, with the months dates and everyone's name. If one is sick or tardy, it is noted on the chart, for all to see. If managers have a problem with an employee's attendance record, this should be addressed privately. They can even document it on a chart, but not for all booksellers to see. A bad virus is going around the store, and even the "honest, hardworking" booksellers are getting sick. But everyone is afraid to call in sick. So we would now make a lovely commercial for Dayquil! The good people call in sick, and are treated equal to a "troublemaker." If they come to work to prove they are sick, the attidude is that they must be well enough, as they came to work! I see that the managers are trying to solve some problems, but isn't this public chart serious harassment/discrimination??? Any thoughts?
:
Are the managers on this chart???? At my store everyone but the general manager and one assistant manager, make sure they use all six of their sick days. Our cafe manager has even gone over! and guess what she still gets paid! must be nice! Many booksellers at my store have been talking and we think that sick days and PPH days should be put together and we should be able to use them when ever we want.. or if you dont use all six of your days you should get some reward for not calling in sick... but the rule about "use them or loose them" sucks!!!! but I do feel bad for you and your store. There shouldnt be a chart!
