I wouldn't go to Borders, they are going to get a discount card to push in the near future. Plus you have to try to get people's email addresses from them. Got to their bb and see what life is like there.

In business today a bachelors degree is not worth that much more than a high school diploma, they are a dime a dozen. To really get anywhere you need a Masters.
I never did understand why people are complaining about B&N booksellers pay. The job is certainly not hard, anyone off the street can do it.
I retired from a utility where I was making $15.50 per hour in a clerical position. That comes out to $28,000 per year. There are good paying jobs out there, jobs where you can actually support your family. But you have to work and you have to use your mind to earn this money. I work at B&N for something to do and to get the discount, I would never have worked there when I was younger and had to support a family and save for retirement.
: No one said the Managers make a Lousy pay. I've been a manager for 6 years and make a VERY good living. But once again booksellers must know the Readers Advantage program is here to stay. And if your going to remain a bookseller with B&N You will have to ask if the customer is going to be using a readers advantage card its very very very simple. If you think your "worth 30-40k" then go find a job that will pay that. What kind of a degree do you have? I have a BBA and walked into a management job. Now if you have any Bachelors degree.. You yourself should be able to go into management and make that 30-40k a year. I see on this site many people bitching about the pay and this and that using PDT's. Only getting 50 cents a year.. If you want more SHOW YOUR MANAGER THAT YOUR WORTH MORE. Now if your a Lead bookseller you should be in the $8-9.00 range. That is pretty good for the business.. Like I said in my last message If you dont like B&N you can go to Borders they dont have a discount card (YET) but you will only be making $5.15 starting out. I dont know.. What do you want $35,000 as a lead bookseller.. Hey I'm all for it! Then I want $115,000! Also one more thing.. If you want something done Do something about it.. Posting messages on here isnt going to change a thing. To tell all of you the truth this site is pretty much a joke during our managers meetings. In all or your breakrooms there are phone numbers of all the important people at B&N maybe they would like to hear you bitch!!
