Usually letting someone go requires an ok from the higher ups and HR dept. I am not sure if this was followed in your case but since someone witnessed the whole thing it might just be a lost cause...they could say since you saw the manager in line why didn't you say anything to them...like quickly ask if it would be ok to ring all that employees purchases. Good news is that they can't tell anyone calling for a reference about this so if I were you I would just look elsewhere.
